Pastoral Care and Attendance

The wellbeing of your child is fundamental to life at Good Shepherd.  All staff have a responsibility and are committed to ensuring each child is kept safe and is happy. Working closely as a team, we attend regular safeguarding sessions and ensure we meet the needs of all pupils in our care.

All staff work closely together to address pupils’ needs. We achieve our aims through regular meetings, parent and pupil workshops and close collaboration with external agencies when necessary.  Good Shepherd is built on an ethos of close collaboration where all stakeholders have a duty of care to the pupils and adults within our school community.

We work with parents, the local community, governors and outside agencies to inform us of any issues that may affect members of our school community and then implement appropriate support.

At Good Shepherd, the wellbeing of all our pupils is our driving force and this goes beyond merely teaching key skills.  We value the development of the child, building in them the resilience to face a challenging world with self-confidence and the belief that they are unique and valued.  We build on our pupils’ natural inclination to learn so that each child will flourish and succeed.

Attendance

We are fully committed to ensuring pupils achieve their full potential and parents have an important role in supporting their success.

  • Pupils are able to arrive in school from 8.40am. This ensures they are ready in class for the start of the school day at 9.00am. Any child that arrives after 9.00am is marked as late. Furthermore, any arrivals after 9.15 are marked as an 'authorised absence' in compliance with our Attendance & Punctuality Policy (please find below).
  • When pupils are absent, parents should telephone the school on the first day of absence to confirm the reason and anticipated length of absence.
  • The school will contact parents if they have not been informed about any absence. Absences of 3 or more days will require a doctor’s certificate.
  • Routine medical, optical and dental treatment should be made outside of school hours.
  • Parents are not permitted to take children on holiday in term time. Should this be necessary, parents must write to the Head Teacher, who will assess each situation individually. Absence will not be approved retrospectively and any absences taken without consent will be an unauthorised absence.
