Who is the Good Shepherd?

The Good Shepherd is a title of Jesus, based on a passage in the Gospel of John where he says, “I am the Good Shepherd; I know my own sheep and my own know me” (John 10:14).

For the first Christians, who were familiar with shepherds, the Good Shepherd was a favourite image to associate with Christ. It represented the shepherd looking after the vulnerable sheep and going to great lengths to keep them safe in the same way that Jesus guides and protects us.
