Prayer Life

We are a Catholic School. Everything that happens here is informed by Gospel Values and the teachings of Jesus. Conversations about the teachings of the Bible or Jesus are not isolated to RE lessons, they permeate all aspects of life at Good Shepherd.

Good Shepherd provides an education, based on the values of living life through Christ. We want our pupils to learn, to grow and to be inspired by Gospel values, so that they can reflect God's love in their everyday lives.

Prayer is central to our everyday life at Good Shepherd.  We believe that prayer brings us closer to God.  We pray at different times of the day, sometimes as a personal prayer, sometimes as a collective prayer.  We pray for ourselves and the needs of others.

In each classroom, we have dedicated prayer focus areas which change to reflect the Liturgical calendar.

Children gather together every day for Prayer and Liturgy which includes the following:

• Thinking

• Sharing

• Listening

• Stillness and silence

Sign of the Cross (said at the beginning and end of all prayers)

In the name of the Father,

and of the Son,

and of the Holy Spirit.

Amen.

Morning prayer

Dear Lord Jesus,

We shall have this day only once;

before it is gone,

help us to do all the good that we can,

so that today is not a wasted day.

Amen

The Our Father

Our Father, who art in Heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth, as it is in Heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen

Grace Before Meals

Bless us, O God, as we sit together.

Bless the food we eat today.

Bless the hands that made the food.

Bless us, O God.

Amen.

The Hail Mary

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, mother of God, pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death. Amen

End of the day prayer

God our Father, I come to say

thank you for your love today.

Thank you for my family

and all the friends you give to me.

Guard me in the dark of night

and in the morning send your light.

Amen.

The Glory Be

Glory be to the father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.

As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end.

Amen
